Deer to my heart

So if you have not guessed… nature images are “deer to my heart”….
I was born & raised in Montana – even though I have not lived there in many, many moons…. it is just there…. and always will be.
I grew up hunting, fishing, playing & working outdoors right next to the Rocky Mountains.
And while life has a way of dragging me away from that, it is a dream to get back there someday…. but while I’m here dreaming, I can have a bit of home right here in my craft studio.

As one project leads to another…. I was trying out a reflection technique and it didn’t quite work out, so I ended up doing a masking technique.
You stamp your image on your card base, then I stamped the same image on a post it note.
Then I cut out that stamped image and placed it over the top of my original stamped image.

Then while my post it was on my original image, I stamped the trees around the moose image. This created a negative space that was not stamped on top of the moose…..
So the moose ended up looking as if it was in front of the trees and the images merged together.

I used the Memento Ink by Close to My Heart so I would be able to color my image in without any of the black ink bleeding and smearing.

With a combination of watercolor pencils and sponging on ink, I created this background around the stamped image.

Here is another card I created using the same technique but with the Elk stamp from the CTMH Nature’s Wish stamp set.

If only I could have gotten an Elk like this in my hunting days.

Now I have the perfect card for any occastion, to send to my Father who still lives in Montana.

Have a great day!
