Paper flowers

After seeing so many neat ideas using the center of the wreath provided in the January wreath kit, I knew I wanted to create something with it.
I was browsing on Pinterest & came across another consultant (Create by Jennifer) who had made a frame decorated with flowers created with the CTMH Flower Market cartridge. She even had the cut file and directions and it didn’t take me long to click Buy.
You can find her post & information to buy the instructions HERE.
FYI: you will need to have purchased the CTMH Flower Market Cricut cartridge in order to cut these files.

But then that forced me into another issue…. I needed to pull out my Cricut Air and try to get it to play nice. See I’ve had a rough relationship with this machine….. I purchased it thinking I wanted to have it so I could do a good comparison on it versus the Silhouette Cameo. Well, after opening it and trying to create a simple project and the program just spinning on me…. I stuffed it in a corner & covered it up. Anyhow, look for a future post on my Pros and Cons of the Cricut Air machine.

This time when I pulled my machine out, I was a bit surprised that it worked. Once the software updated, I was able to open the file that was sent to me and get my papers prepped for cutting.

I organized all my papers according to the colors she had on the list of supplies and lined them up, then using 2 mats, I rotated them in and out of the machine and just started a pile of cut pieces. It took me about an hour to get them all cut out. But, that is much less time than if I used my Expression machine and punched in each button. The file was all lined out with the pieces on each mat by color and 12 mats later, all the pieces were cut.

The next morning I sat down to sort all the flowers and to assemble them. While my finished project isn’t exactly how I imagined it…. it still shows a great selection of the different flowers you can make using the CTMH Flower Market Cartridge.

The supplies used to create this are:

CTMH Flower Market Cricut Cartridge
CTMH colored card stock
CTMH Liquid Glass adhesive
CTMH wreath center from January Paper wreath kit
CTMH Rustic Homes paper
CTMH White Enamael gems
CTMH Clear Sparkles
CTMH Gold Glitter Paper

The wreath kit is available until January 31, 2017 and is FREE with a $60 purchase or can be purchased for $18.95.
Here is my original wreath that I created and I fell in love with it, even though it’s not something I would typically create.

Customized nerf targets

I just love being able to add a personalize touch to almost any item.
We saw this DIY nerf gun target on Facebook over the holidays and knew it needed to be created in our house….. but, I was asked to take it one step further.
I was told we needed “bad guy” faces for our targets…. well google “bad guy” clip art and not much comes up that would really work…..
So I asked my 5 year old son and he saw this Lego man face and wanted it….
Then, I saw the Joker face and had to try it out…..
It was a hit for a few moments and then a new Nerf war broke out and it’s much funner to shoot at a real person than a target…..

Now, back to the Nerf wars!!

National Papercrafting month

January is National Papercrafting Month and to celebrate Close to My Heart has this amazing wreath kit as a special FREE item when you purchase $60 or more in January.
Or you can purchase for $18.95 each
Or…. by hosting a party that reaches the 2nd tier of Hostess credits ($250 party)
Or…. sign on as a new consultant and it will be included with your new consultant kit.

I was so excited to play with mine… as a consultant we can preview & purchase new items 1 month in advance…. but even though I had this kit in December, I just didn’t have time with the holidays to sit and create it. Last Saturday, I finally took the time and it was so much fun….
Step 1 – get your NEW wreath kit HERE
Step 2 – gather your supplies
Step 3 – start creating.

Here are my roses…. I sponged on Blossom ink before I punched them out and then used my new Quilling tool to roll the flowers – oh so easy!
And then used a good large daub of Liquid Glass to hold it all together.

I used New England Ivy and Lagoon ink on the rest of the flowers.
And here they are all ink sponged, punched out and glued together.

The only time I have a green thumb is when inking something up.

Then it was time to add some sparkle. I used the Clear Shimmer Brush on my roses and the New! Gold Shimmer brush on my other flowers.

I used my bone folders to curl up the edges of the flowers by holding the centers and just rolling it along the edge of the folder until the desired effect was achieved.

Then I painted my flowers with the Gold Shimmer brush…. once I started, I couldn’t stop… they all needed to be blinged up.

And now assembly!!!

I pretty much used the instructions included and followed the image provided as best I could…. now, my next wreath I can think outside the box and play with the placement.

Here are a few close ups of the completed flowers. I used the gold dot provided in the kit and since it was a flat sticker, I glued it in the center and then put a big dot of Liquid Glass in the Center. once it dried, it looked very sparkly and shimmered. It was the perfect touch for dimension.

Here are a few items that I would recommend using with this kit:
#1 – Liquid Glass – this is a wonderful liquid adhesive that works wonders in holding the flowers together & drying fairly quickly
#2 – Quilling tool – I was skeptical if I would use this one, but after my first rolled flower, it quickly became apparent that it was an awesome tool. I even used it to roll up the edges of the other flower shapes, especially the smaller ones that I cold not get my bone folder in under.
#3 – Shimmer brushes – Gold & Clear – these add an amazing sparkle to any project. Once you start it’s hard to stop.
#4 – Gold Glitter gems – NEW! if it would have had some, they would have been the flower centers. They are on my next order!

This is a great project from beginner to advanced paper crafting. You can create the kit as is with a minimal amount of tools or you can bling it up, however you want to create it.

This kit is only available during the month of January or while supplies last!
So hurry over HERE and grab it today!

Off to create something else fabulous!

After Christmas crafting

On Christmas morning I quickly realized that I needed Santa sacks, so no one could “peek” at what Santa brought before everyone else got out of bed.
While shopping in the Target Christmas clearance the day after Christmas, I happened on these burlap sacks.

I quickly sprang into action….

Grabbed 3 of them and headed home. There was some HTV that would be great on these.
I found some gold foil HTV in my sample stash and set to creating the names in the Studio.

Just as a reminder…. always mirror your image when using HTV or you will end up wasting a bit of vinyl.
Eventually, I will get a heat press, but for now, my iron works with my teflon sheet.

The kids all enjoyed modeling their new Santa sacks for next year.

Enjoy creating!

New Year – New Mat!!!

I was cutting a few designs out of vinyl and it just seemed to keep tearing…..
I powered through and cut a second time & then carefully coaxed it while weeding the design….

You can find that previous blog post with image HERE.

A few days later I sit down to cut a few more and think to myself, “Let’s try a new mat and see if it makes a difference.”

Oh my gosh! I don’t know why I always forget to try this…..
It’s probably because I feel that my old mat is still sticky, but it just must not be sticky enough.
A new mat, the vinyl doesn’t slip at all and I think that makes all the difference in clear cut lines….
This design below was so easy to weed and on 651, which I seem to have more issues with weeding.

New mat = problem solved!

I found this design in the Silhouette store and it said “Buy Me”…. well – click… and now I can just place it on my mat, resize it and cut. So simple!

I wish you all a very Happy New Year & wish you many blessings in 2017!!
