New! Silhouette Go Mobile App

This is just a quick post to give you a heads up that the new Silhouette Go mobile app has been released. And it is available for both Android and iOS devices.

This mobile app will work with any Bluetooth enabled Silhouette machine.
– Cameo 3
– Cameo 4
– Portrait 2
– Portrait 3 (newly released – more info HERE)
– Cameo Plus
– Cameo Pro (when released)

Now, just to give you an idea, this new mobile app is designed as a cutting app and does not have design capabilities in it.

Why?

Well, the Silhouette Studio software is a very powerful graphics program and you cannot fit all of that into an app. It is just not possible. Some computers do not even meet the specs to handle the full software, so there just is not a way to squish that into an app.

Two things to keep in mind on mobile devices.
First, font are not installed on mobile devices so you do not have access to your fonts that are on your computer. At the moment since it is a Beta test version, you may also see odd things with user designs that have text in the design. This is because that font is not installed on your device.
Second, mobile device storage is limited. Keep that in mind when you are downloading files to your device. The more you download, the more storage is used.

It is designed as a cutting app that can cut from files from the Silhouette library, files synced to the User Designs section of the library, and svg files.

Keep in mind that this new mobile app is released in public Beta (testing) at the moment.
That means that there will be updates. In fact, while I was recording the videos below, there was an update to it. I expect to see several more updates come out in quick succession.

We’ve been testing the mobile app in the Beta testing group for a couple of months now, so I thought I would share the things I’ve learned.

Check out this new video Silhouette Go video series on my YouTube channel HERE.
I would love if you would leave me a comment below or on the video direct on YouTube.

Silhouette Go Series – Video 2 – User Designs

Silhouette Go Series – Video 4 – Opening svg files

Now, keep in mind that this is not going to work for all users. It is designed to be able to cut designs quickly from your Silhouette library, user designs, or svg files. It is not designed as a design app. If you want the full capabilities of the software, you will want to access that on a computer.

I have been successful at opening and cutting files direct from the Silhouette Go mobile app and have been playing with it for a couple of months now.
I encourage you to open it up and just start playing with it.

One of my favorite parts of the new mobile app is to be able to open my Silhouette library on my mobile device while I’m relaxing in the evenings and just start planning some projects. I can open designs and see how they look. See if it’s something I want to add to my to-do list. Or decide if it’s not what will work for my project.

How do you get the app?

At the moment it is released into public Beta (testing), which means it is not fully in the app stores. There are a lot of factors here and I fully expect updates to happen quickly in the next few weeks as it moves to Open Public release.

Find out how to get the app here – Silhouette Go App

I have used it on both devices and it is pretty much the same, just like the Silhouette software is on the computers. Only minor OS differences.

I would love to see what you are making with your Silhouette machines!

  1. Thanks for the great video but thanks even more for talking about the problems with Bluetooth and Silhouette. Some days it works perfectly and connects up quickly and others it never connects even after multiple attempts and leaving it on for hours. So nice to know it’s not my husband and me doing something wrong. I’m looking forward to using the Mobile App and getting connected up! Thanks!

      1. Thanks, I have tried complete shutdown and starting the Cameo first then the computer and vice versa it just is finicky. Hoping for better results with the mobile app. BTW you are the first to talk about this app. I follow 2 others and not a peep so thanks again!

      2. Which Cameo model do you have? I have found a LOT of the factors vary depending on your computer. I had a mother-daughter lesson a few weeks back. The mother uses the Cameo 4 bluetooth connection exclusively, which no issues ever. The daughter had her computer connected by bluetooth in the lesson, 6 inches from the Cameo and it lost connection 4 times in less than an hour. We finally just plugged it in. The only difference was her computer vs her moms.

  2. I have a question. Can you tell me what thickness of leather works best for etching? Wanting to purchase leather and don’t want to get some too thick that won’t work. Thank you.

    1. You want tooling leather. The one I used is ReaLeather Tooling Leather and it can be found at Hobby Lobby or on Amazon. It is 3-4 oz, I believe. Whatever you use, you will need to test with it. I will be releasing the Leather Embossing video class next month after the preview period is over for the event we held. I share all my tips and tricks in it from my hours of testing, if you are interested. It will be announced on this blog and available here: https://silhouette-secrets.teachable.com/courses
