I am creating this little handy guide to Silhouette machines and will break it down by machine model in the sections below depending on what a user is looking to do with a machine.

Silhouette Portrait 4

The smallest Silhouette machine weighing in at 4 lbs 1.3 oz – the Silhouette Portrait 4 is a compact but powerful cutting machine with a cutting width of 8.5″

Silhouette Cutting Mats for the Portrait 4 (this is a new design from older Portrait models)

Silhouette Cameo5α (Alpha)

The Silhouette Cameo5α (Alpha) is the latest Cameo model that has a 12″ cutting width. New roller design and a tiny bit of additional clearance added to the roller bar for use with the Electrostatic Mat.

Silhouette Cutting Mats for the Cameo

Silhouette Cameo5α (Alpha) Plus

The Silhouette Cameo5α Plus has a cutting width of 14.6″ with or without a cutting mat.

The Silhouette Cameo5α Plus cuts 2.6″ wider than the Silhouette Cameo5α 12″ model and features an automatic opening cover and comes in black. When the machine is powered on, the cover will open.

Silhouette Cutting Mats for the Cameo Plus

Silhouette Cameo MK II

The Silhouette Cameo MK II is Silhouette’s 24″ cutting machine.

A sleek, black portable scanner with control buttons on the right side.

The Silhouette Cameo Pro MK II has improved features such as a second powered carriage, quieter, emergency stop, and updated roller system. The Silhouette Cameo Pro MK II also has the repeat job option too!

Silhouette Cutting Mats for the Cameo

Silhouette Curio 2

The Silhouette Curio 2 is a 12″ x 12″ flatbed machine. It comes with the electrostatic mat and has an additional Curio debris tray that can be purchased separately for engraving, leather carving, and embossing. The Silhouette Curio 2 features a 20 mm clearance that makes it stand out from other machines.

Silhouette Cutting Mats for the Curio 2

I highly recommend the Silhouette Curio 2 Debris Tray if you plan to engrave, punch, leather carve, or emboss. Some powered tools require the Curio 2 Debris Tray to function properly. If you try to “trick” the machine, it will sort of freak out and act like you have broken it. However, it can be reset with a full shut down and then should function again properly. The Silhouette Studio programming for the Silhouette Curio 2 tools does not allow for certain uses without the Curio Debris Tray.
